Where? AYAMONTE...
Is at the Guadiana River mouth, on the Costa de la Luz in Andalusia: it is the ideal starting point to discover the Province of Huelva (Columbus Route, Doñana National Park, El Rocío, Aracena and Picos de Aroche…), the Western Andalusia (Seville, Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera…) and the Portuguese Algarve that can be reached either through the International Bridge or by a romantic 15min ferry trip to Vila Real de Santo Antonio.
The highway E-1/A-49 Seville-Huelva-Portugal is the natural access way to Ayamonte which is at 35min from Huelva, Province’s capital, 1h15 from Seville and at only 1h30 from the Seville’s International Airport. It is also possible to come from Portugal through the Algarve’s highway since the Faro’s International Airport is at only 45min.
Look at the map withIt is a precious coastal town with white houses and a marine atmosphere. After a long tradition dedicated to the sea and fishing nets, it has moved for some years to a top destination in Andalusia with some of the best beaches of Southern Spain and a promising future.
Its exceptional climate offers us some 315 sunny days per year, with a temperature from 15° in winter and 35° in summer softened with the fresh breeze from the sea, which makes Ayamonte the perfect spot to be on holiday and enjoy its 3 golf courses, without forgetting the other 14 within a radius of 40km between Spain and Portugal!
Each corner of Ayamonte faces the sea, the Guadiana River and Portugal and it sits on a hill which slopes slowly to the marsh and the golden sands of the beach. It is a lively city, made of welcoming and cheerful people.
This small city of around 20’000 inhabitants has 2 harbors and kilometers of wide and clean beaches that are given the blue flag distinction for their quality. The beaches, which have indeed given fame to this destination, are various. The most known is maybe Isla Canela, a fantastic sandy beach of 7km, flat with lateral winds, ideal to be enjoyed in family or to practice aquatic sports with the sailing school, like kite-surf for example. Next to it is the Punta del Moral Beach, marine suburb.
Ayamonte can be visited all the year long since there is always something new to discover: the Three Kings procession (January), Carnival, its National Tourist Interest renowned Holy Week, the Romería de la Santa Cruz (May), the Carmen Celebrations in the Canela’s suburb (June), the Santo Antonio de Padua Celebrations in Punta del Moral (July), the Salvador Celebrations in the Old Quarter and the International Music Festival (August), the Patron Saint Celebrations of Our Lady of Las Angustias (September), San Diego (November), without forgetting all the different cultural and sport activities scheduled around the year.
Must see places are: the Our Lady of Las Angustias and San Francisco churches, both from the XVI century; the parish church of El Salvador, from the XV century; the Plaza de la Laguna and Paseo de la Ribera, both surrounded with palm trees; the Plaza de España with the Virgin of Las Angustias statute inaugurated in 2006, next to the city’s Zoo and Botanical Centre; the Casa Grande (XVII century), city’s Library and Exposition Centre; between many others places of interest.
Furthermore, there is a great number of family activities that can be realized like horse riding, boat trips out at sea or up the Guadiana River, aquatic and attractions parks like Aquopolis in Cartaya, the famous Zoomarine in Albufeira (Portugal) or Isla Mágica in Seville, to only mention the main ones.
